Beach Wedding Beauty: Hot Honeymoon!

Flash tattoos and shimmering body oil

So you go all out glamorous for your wedding day (and rightfully so!) but what about the honeymoon? Granted you may not want to pack on the makeup during your special vacation but you still want to look cute for your new spouse. While these products I am talking about are not makeup items, they are beauty items that I brought along with me on my tropical honeymoon and loved them! My husband especially loved them and ever since our honeymoon, likes when I wear them to special events (concerts, date nights, going to the beach, etc).

Flash tattoo for foot

The first item I am recommending are Flash Tattoos. I bought these from Sephora and I got the Sofia style. They are temporary tattoos that look like metallic jewelry and they are so fun! I bought them just before my bachelorette party/trip and shared them with my bridesmaids too. There are plenty of tattoos included in the package and I still have not used them all. They lasted on my bridesmaids for days on end, since they all have dry skin. On my oily skin, they only seem to last for a day or two. Even so I always look forward to wearing them.

The second recommendation I have is a shimmering body oil. I was perusing through my local Ulta and stumbled upon the Physician’s Formula Illuminating Argun Oil. It can be used on your face and your body. I knew I was going to need some moisture put back into my skin since the sun makes my skin pretty dry. The argun oil is great at moisturizing and the shimmer makes your skin look even more beautiful! It is worth mentioning that for both of these items, you do not need these exact brands. The combination of the tattoos and the body oil just gives you that extra something special on your honeymoon!

Beach Wedding Beauty: Norvell Spray Tan Review

Norvell Spray Tan

Norvell Spray Tan 2

For my wedding I got an airbrush spray tan from a local salon. The salon uses the Norvell spray tan system and it is by far my favorite spray/self-tanning system. Combining a brilliant, dark, deep, and natural color with a custom application, the end result is a beautiful tan for your beach or summer wedding. I have always loved the color the Norvell system gives me and will continue to use it when I have special events. I enjoy applying a self-tanning lotion myself but for special occasions, I like to have a professional spray tan. I have also tried the Mystic tanning booth and I do not recommend it at all (uneven application, horrible smell, extremely unnatural color, faded quickly, even more expensive, etc).

Even though I did develop a natural tan before my wedding, the darkest tanning color for the system deepened my tan even more. But you may be asking, “What if I have naturally fairer skin?” Choose a lighter shade and the resulting look will still be a natural and healthy glow to your skin. Both my mother and sister, who are more fair than I am and have a reddish-undertone to their skin, got the lighter shades done for the wedding and it turned out great. While traditional self-tanning lotions/mousse leaves streaks if water touches it before the tan has fully developed, my Norvell tan still looked great the next day even though I accidentally spilled water on myself only a hour after application.

If you would like to have these results at home, you can purchase a Norvell system and learn how to apply it (or make a loved one learn, haha). Or you can choose to go to a salon that uses the system (that is reputable, look up reviews) and get a custom application. The salon I went to is Glow Tan and Boutique in Canton, GA. If you live in the metro Atlanta area, I highly suggest you try out this salon. It is a far drive but completely worth it. The current cost of one application is $30 (plus tip if you want) and that is a reasonable price, especially since most salons are charging $35-$55 for either a personal airbrush tan or a tanning booth. If a party of four or more goes at one time (make sure to set up an appointment beforehand), the cost of the spray tan per person drops down to $25. If you are curious in getting a spray tan, regardless of the brand, try it out a few weeks before the wedding to see if you like the color. If you do end up going with the specific brand, I suggest getting the spray tan done two days before the wedding.

I hope all this information is helpful and look out for my next post which will give suggestions for products to bring on your honeymoon!

Beach Wedding Beauty: Kendra Scott Color Bar

I think Kendra Scott’s Color Bar is the greatest idea for bridal jewelry. Not just the jewelry itself, but the excitement involved with choosing the design and gem colors. You have the option of choosing from a great selection of earring, necklace, ring, and bracelet styles, and for my wedding, I chose the Jayna earrings. You can create a Color Bar jewelry item either on the Kendra Scott website or in one of her stores. I went into the Alpharetta location to look at the gems in person then ordered the earrings online (I had an online coupon code). And I absolutely love them!

You can also create a wonderful memory with your bridesmaids and have a Color Bar Bridal Party at a store. You can sip on some refreshments while all of you create your wedding jewelry together. I would have loved to have done this but it is not the easiest when all of your bridesmaids were living in different states! Even then, all of my girls were able to create their own jewelry for the wedding. I really loved doing this for my wedding. As with their dresses and shoes, I gave them a few guidelines (either the coral gem or any of the neutral colored gems) and let them have the fun of choosing what they wanted to wear.

Whichever route you decide on in choosing your bridal jewelry, I highly suggest you use Kendra Scott’s Color Bar. Your earrings will have an extra special meaning for your big day. And if you opt for a Color Bar Bridal Party, it will be an experience that you and your girls will never forget!

Beach Wedding Beauty: The Complete Look!

WeddingMakeup

As a round-up of the makeup portion of my Beach Wedding Beauty series, I thought I would include a post listing all of the makeup items I used on my wedding day. I will include each item and my thoughts on the performance of each as well.

  • I wrote a blog post all about my beachy smokey eye, including every product and how I applied them.
  • Primer: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer –  This is, as I have previously mentioned, my favorite primer. I do believe it helped with the staying power of my face makeup but definitely at the end of the night I just had the shiniest face. I honestly do not think that anything could have completely prevented that but the primer did help.
  • Foundation: Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ – This foundation was just amazing. With the help of the primer, it just was the best foundation for me. Even though by 10:00 PM my oil and sweat started to show through, my face still looked great. What is even better is that I had no flash back at all!
  • Concealer: Laura Mercier Secret Camoflague – I used this concealer for blemishes (I do not like the under eye highlighted look on me and I do not deal with darkness under my eyes so I just did not use concealer there). This product is a rock star and covered all of my scarring. HG!!
  • Powder: L’Oreal True Match Powder – Absolutely fantastic! I started out with a light dusting of this powder all over my face to set my foundation and concealer (used a big, fluffy powder brush). After about an hour, I noticed that I was a little bit more glowy than I wanted. I ended up applying more of this powder on my t-zone with the sponge applicator that came with it and my makeup was set after that. It did not look cakey at all and helped to mattify my face for a majority of the day.
  • Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer – Great bronzer, smells like chocolate, need I say more?
  • Blush: NARS Blush in Orgasm – So I have a tiny confession to make: the whole time I was planning on wearing NARS Blush in Madly on my wedding day for that gorgeous, bronzy look. Turns out I left it at home! I was so upset. Thankfully my bridesmaid had brought the Orgasm blush that I had given her about a year earlier (at the time I just was not blown away by the shade). I decided to wear it very lightly on my wedding day (I wanted the focus to be on my eyes and lips) and loved how it looked! Ironic huh?
  • Highlighter: BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal – This highlighter is GORGEOUS! I mean so incredibly beautiful on the skin but you have to use a light hand or you will look like a disco ball. The photographers’ cameras did not enhance the glitter particles in the photographs so I definitely recommend this highlighter to brides!
  • Eyebrow Pencil: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz – With the product on one end and a spoolie brush on the other, this product reduces the tools you need to do your brows. It has a super thin tip and when applied correctly, makes your eye brows look very natural. Since the tip is so tiny, it is a time consuming process to fill them in but on your wedding day does it matter? You want to look your best after all.
  • Eyebrow Gel: NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel – This beauty is like glue! Your eyebrows will absolutely stay in place with this stuff.
  • Setting Spray: Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Setting Spray – To be quite honest, I think for my wedding day I would have rather gone with the All Nighter version. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, I tested this spray a lot and did not notice that it really helped with oil control. However, I did not want to go buy a whole new bottle so I just used what I had.
